Dino has shared the stage with a wide range of artists including Screaming Jets, Richie Sambora, Sammy Hagar, Boom Crash Opera, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Don Burrows, James Morrison & Steve Vai. His vocal ability, songwriting flare and remixing style have also given Dino the opportunity to work on recording projects with Rusty Anderson (Paul McCartney Band), Ray Columbus, Alan Gorrie (Average White Band), Mark King (Level 42), Carmen Grillo (Tower Of Power) and Australian icon Barry Crocker.
Many Australians may not realize why Dino’s voice sounds familiar. He has been featured in many radio and television advertisements. He contributed vocals to the Cooper’s Light Beer launch campaign, which went on to win the prestigious Clio Award, one of the highest honors in advertising.
Dino’s journey from a boy in South Australia to an internationally recognized artist is a testament to how the combination of hard work and talent can make dreams come true. As with many artists, music was a family affair in Dino’s home. He began performing live when he was 13 as a guitarist and singer in a cabaret band with his older brother Val on drums. As a teenager, Dino gained exposure through his parents’ many contacts in the catering industry. He was soon in demand!
Dino joined his first touring band, The Fraud Squad, when he was 19. He toured Queensland with the band performing covers of popular songs. A guitarist, Dino soon became the band’s lead vocalist. For two years, Dino toured seven days a week.
Proving that he is one of the most versatile performers in Australian music, Dino performed as a tenor with the 20-piece Adelaide Connection Jazz Choir. He was nominated as the “Best Male Vocalist” three consecutive years at the South Australian Music Industry Award (SAMIA) while performing with the funk/rock band Stolen Waters. During his time with Stolen Waters, from 1995 to 1998, they released a cover of “Superstitious” which charted well in Australia.
Today Dino is best known for his unique cover of the 70’s classic, “Play that Funky Music.” The song has burned up the dance charts worldwide, reaching number 8 in Australia and number 34 in Denmark.
Dino continues to tour and release new songs for his devoted fans. A new EP titled From The Demo Vault (previously unreleased) is scheduled for an international release date of November 1, 2009. The EP features four songs which were recorded in 2002 — “Twenty Four Seven,” “You’re The One,” “No Sense” and “Different.” He has details of this and all his releases on his website, www.dinojag.com. He also releases free songs to his fans from time to time through his site.
Dino embraces the funkalicious music that has shaped his career while exploring new sounds in his own electrifying way. Look for his music on the worldwide stage!
Innovative. Unique. Gifted. Vibrant. This too is DINO JAG!
