Some words of Wisdom… from six-year olds!

October 27th, 2009

A friend of mine forwarded this email to me this morning & I got a great laugh out of it. I just had to share it with you. It reminded me of the power of simplicity and how we should never underestimate the source of a piece of wisdom! Here’s the scoop…

A 1st grade school teacher had twenty-six students in her class. She presented each child in her classroom the 1st half of a well-known proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. It’s hard to believe these were actually done by first graders.. Their insight may surprise you. While reading, keep in mind that these are first-graders, 6-year-olds, because the last one is a classic!

1. Don’t change horses until they stop running.
2. Strike while the bug is close.
3. It’s always darkest before Daylight Saving Time.
4. Never underestimate the power of termites.
5. You can lead a horse to water but How?
6. Don’t bite the hand that looks dirty.
7. No news is impossible
8. A miss is as good as a Mr.
9. You can’t teach an old dog new Math
10. If you lie down with dogs, you’ll stink in the morning.
11. Love all, trust Me.
12. The pen is mightier than the pigs.
13. An idle mind is the best way to relax.
14. Where there’s smoke there’s pollution.
15. Happy the bride who gets all the presents.
16. A penny saved is not much.
17. Two’s company, three’s the Musketeers.
18. Don’t put off till tomorrow what you put on to go to bed.
19. Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and You have to blow your nose.
20. There are none so blind as Stevie Wonder.
21. Children should be seen and not spanked or grounded.
22. If at first you don’t succeed get new batteries.
23. You get out of something only what you See in the picture on the box
24. When the blind lead the blind get out of the way.
25. A bird in the hand is going to poop on you.
26. Better late than Pregnant

Cheers!
Dino :)

If you love them, set them free…

October 7th, 2009

From The Demo Vault (previously unreleased)

That’s what I am doing to some of my songs that have never been released to the public. Like most songwriters, I have written and recorded songs that have never been heard by the general public. Many of these songs are in demo form–which means they are a rough version of what the song may sound like in its final version.

But as most recording artists will tell you, sometimes a little bit of magic happens when you are recording a demo. The performers connect, and the real spirit and personality of the song comes out.  So even though the demo may not be the cleanest recording of a song, it may have that magic that is so hard to capture in subsequent recordings.

I have shared some of these demos on my website and social sites, and I have received requests from fans who want to buy these songs. So in the spirit of “If you love them, set them free,” I have decided to get some of my songs out of the darkness of the demo vault and share them with the rest of the world.

The first in the series will be an EP titled From The Demo Vault (previously unreleased). It is scheduled for an international release date of November 1, 2009. The EP will feature four songs which were recorded in 2002 — “Twenty Four Seven,” “You’re The One,”  “No Sense” and  “Different.”  Look for the EP on your favorite music sites.

Now I feel liberated!

Standing Ovation for Final Adelaide Concert

The third and final sell-out show in Adelaide for the “ASO Plays Queen” concert series ended with a standing ovation as the audience showed their approval of the tribute paid to supergroup Queen.

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) joined by the cast of leading Aussie rock performers, including vocalist and recording artist “Dino Jag” La Vista, presented the music of Queen in an orchestral makeover like no other!

The ASO continues to reach new audiences through its bold new programs and performances style. It has given the music of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd an orchestral face lift while presenting the contemporary sounds of groups such as Radiohead, Muse, Jeff Buckley and Tool in The Edge series. And now, in what is being hailed as their biggest success with the orchestral rock series, the ASO have successfully added the music of Queen to their programming.

The cast of rock musicians and singers will now head off to Brisbane to join The Queensland Orchestra for the final Australian concert at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday 9th June 2007. Tickets are still available through Ticketek on 132 849 or book online.

“Post Cards” TV Special on “Queen” Concerts

May 10th, 2007

Live footage & interviews taken by channel 7’s “Post Cards”strong> on the “ASO Plays Queen” concerts will go to air on Sunday 27th May at 5.30pm. Footage will include a sample of “Dino Jag” La Vista singing “We are the Champions”.

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) was going through its paces when Channel 7’s “Post Cards”strong> crew called in to its Hindley Street headquarters.

It was picking up on the riff from Queens’ “We are the Champions” which once reverberated through hi-fi speakers in teenage sleepouts and bedrooms around the world.

It’s difficult, multi-layered music which is just the sort of challenge the ASO and rock musicians, Rob Pippan and Warwick Cheatlle need, having already taken audiences to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon last year.

Rob and Warwick have teamed up with vocalists “Dino Jag” La Vista, Dianne Dixon, Ian “Polly” Politis, Emily Kelly, Craig Csongrady, Nanette Van Ruiten & Deb Brunotte to bring the music of Freddie Mercury, Brian May and the other members of the legendary band Queen to Adelaide audiences at the Festival Theatre.

It’s a wonderful blend of cool vocals, amp-driven power and stringed sophistication. According to Rainer Jozeps, for the ASO it’s a case of musical cross-pollination.

“We want to see if we can get the people who come to the Queen performance to come and see what they think about Mozart and Beethoven. Adelaide audiences are fantastically experimental.”"

The ASO continues to push the musical envelope having recently collaborated with local hip hop band, the Hill Top Hoods but this time another crop of baby boomers will converge on the Festival Theatre for a trip down memory lane.

Queen gained international recognition with the release of their album “”Sheer Heart Attack‚Äù. Since 1973, the band released 15 studio albums, 5 live albums and numerous compilation albums. They’ve sold more than 300 million copies worldwide.

Dino Jag Sings “Fool On The Hill” for Beatles Tribute Album

April 29th, 2007

A recording of Dino Jag singing “Fool On The Hill” will be included on “FrenchBlackBirds”, the second album scheduled to be released in the series which pays homage to the music of The Beatles as presented by French pianist/composer/arranger & producer Christophe Violland (musical director & keyboard player for The Andrew Strong Band, The Commitments).

The recordings feature a swag of international guests including such luminaries as Average White Band lead vocalist Alan Gorrie (Pictured), Tom Bowes (Tower Of Power / Funk Filharmonik), Carmen Grillo (Tower Of Power), Larry Hoppen (Orleans) & Mark King (Level 42).

The series promises to be an exhilarating showcase of Beatle songs like you’ve never heard before! Christophe Violland has a knack for arrangements which fuse the soulful elements of jazz, rock & funk into a vivacious sound which is becoming his trademark. All guests appearing on “FrenchBlackBirds” will be supported by “le tentet au carre”, a cracking thirty-one piece orchestra which he established specifically for the album.

No official release date has been announced as yet for “FrenchBlackBirds” which is currently being mixed down. In the meantime, you can check out some tasty samples including Carmen Grillo singing Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band & Mark King’s version of Penny Lane at www.myspace.com/christopheviolland.
