Haiti Earthquake Disaster.. Still Calling All The Saints
This week marks the fourth anniversary of the Haiti earthquake disaster that managed to kill over 300,000 people and leave more than 1.5 million homeless. I still find that hard to comprehend.. that’s more people than the whole of the state of South Australia where I’m from!
Most people that know me are aware of my connection to Haiti through my song “Calling All The Saints” which was released as a vehicle to help raise continued awareness and support for the people of Haiti following the earthquake on January 12, 2010.
Ironically, I was actually in my home studio laying down a demo of the song when the news broke out about the Haiti earthquake.. it was quite a chilling moment for me. I knew right then and there that “Calling All The Saints” was destined to serve a greater purpose for me as a songwriter.
To be honest, I didn’t even know where Haiti was at the time! But like everyone else, I was shocked and deeply moved by all the images and the extent of the destruction that had taken place. It all seemed quite surreal to me on the other side of the world.
And you feel kind of helpless in these situations cause there’s nothing you can really do about it other than donate to organizations that are able to actively help on the ground. That’s why the release is currently supporting the efforts of Oxfam America.
50% of all proceeds received from the sale of “Calling All The Saints” go to Oxfam America who are continuing to provide much needed ongoing support toward the rebuilding of Haiti.
